Finally an answer as to why I wait until the last minute to get things done. Like get my home together the day before the appraiser comes rather than do a room each day after work. Then I get this super power where I can blast through every room with a purpose and it feels easy, I have motivation and energy. I have a sense of reward afterwards. The only thing that I don’t like about it is each day that passes, that I don’t have the energy, motivation or desire to tidy up, it feels like a heavy burden. If I could just shift that thought into, it will get done don’t panic, all would be well! Thanks for this! It’s helpful.
I'm so grateful you found this helpful. ADHD can be so confusing and counterintuitive. For me, understanding the mechanics of what's happening not only relieves the shame but gives me real traction when trying out new strategies. When you know *why* your brain does what it does, you can stop wasting precious energy blaming yourself and start working with your reality instead of against it. Better understanding has truly been a win-win, and I'm so glad this helped you too. 💙
What a great read! This aligns with research showing that ADHD brains respond more strongly to immediate rewards than delayed ones. Urgency increases activation enough to temporarily support task engagement, but it relies on a stress response rather than sustainable regulation. Thanks 😊 for this work.
